Dulles Day Plane Pull
What IS the actual Plane Pull? A benefit for Special Olympics Virginia, the pull is a fun team competition to see which group can pull a 164,000+ pound Airbus the fastest. Teams are made up of 25 members, who all line up adjacent to a huge rope attached to the aircraft. The starter signals when to start and starts the stopwatch. After the team pulls the aircraft 12 feet, the stopwatch stops and the elapsed time is recorded as the team score.
Fundraising
Charlie Dyson Memorial Golf Tournament
IAFF Local #3217 is always working to raise funds to support our many initiatives, including our Member Welfare Fund that helps members and families experiencing financial difficulties due to medical or personal situations (both inside our Local and for other Locals).
Our key fundraiser is the Charlie Dyson Memorial Golf Tournament, held in the Spring of each year. We are always in search of sponsors for these events, so don't hesitate to contact us about playing in the tournaments or becoming a sponsor. Watch this site for information about both tournaments.
Our future plans include the creation of a new Training and Education fund for our members which would fund programs for members who cannot get money from the department to attend.
MDA
LOCAL #3217 has another successful year with the MDA Fill-the-Boot Campaign
IAFF Local #3217 continued their support of the Fill-the-Boot campaign in September by once again getting the union members of Dulles and National Airports out into the intersections during Labor Day weekend to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year Local #3217 was able to increase our collection by over 200%. In return the MDA staff recognized National Airport union members with the Top Airport award and National Airport’s “A” Shift with the Top Shift award for their amounts collected.
Special thanks go to Loudoun County and the City of Arlington for allowing members of Local #3217 to collect money in their respective jurisdictions. Most importantly, Local #3217 owes a special thanks to those members who gave up their time to help out in this very important cause.
