Fundraising:

IAFF Local #3217 is always working to raise funds to support our many initiatives, including our Member Welfare Fund that helps members and families experiencing financial difficulties due to medical or personal situations (both inside our Local and for other Locals).

Our key fundraiser is the Charlie Dyson Memorial Golf Tournament, held in the Spring of each year. We are also starting a Fall Classic Golf Tournament this year, which will be held on October 19, 2007. We are always in search of sponsors for these events, so don't hesitate to contact us about playing in the tournaments or becoming a sponsor. Watch this site for information about both tournaments.

Our future plans include the creation of a new Training and Education fund for our members which would fund programs for members who cannot get money from the department to attend.

Local #3217 MDA Collection a Success!

Gorgeous weather shined upon union members of Dulles and National Airports Labor Day weekend as they collected money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Local #3217 was able to raise over $1000 for the MDA.

Local #3217 has been facing a number of obstacles in the MDA collection, including weather issues last year and severe limitations in when members could participate and where they could conduct the collections. The members of Local #3217 persevered, and came through for the MDA.

Special thanks go to Loudoun County and the City of Alexandria for allowing members of Local 3217 to collect money in their respective jurisdictions. Most importantly, Local #3217 owes a special thanks to those members who gave up their time to help out in this very important cause.

President Karl Liedke praised the surrounding locals for their cooperation and noted, “it was great to see IAFF members working together to accomplish the same goal.” At the end of the day our unions joined together to move one step closer to eradicating this terrible disease.
