demoThe Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Professional Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local #3217, is made up of nearly 120 men and women working for the MWAA Fire and Rescue Department at two different airports, Reagan National and Washington Dulles. Both airports are located in Northern Virginia, right outside of Washington, D.C.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Professional Fire Fighters, IAFF Local 3217, would like to welcome you to our web site. The MWAA Fire Fighters protect Washington Dulles International and Reagan National Airports in the Washington, DC, Metropolitan area.

The members of IAFF Local 3217 provide crash fire rescue services to both airports as well as structural firefighting, emergency medical services, tunnel rescue, water rescue, technical rescue, and hazardous materials response.

RIP Daryl "Shockwave" Fitzgerald

Daryl Nelson "Shockwave" Fitzgerald Sr. Daryl Nelson Fitzgerald, Sr. Corporal Daryl Nelson "Shockwave" Fitzgerald, Sr., age 41, of Culpeper, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 13, 2011. He was born in Culpeper on August 5, 1970 to the late Henry Nelson and Octavia Smith Fitzgerald. He graduated from Culpeper County High School in 1988 where he enjoyed track & field and playing football. At the age of 16, he began to volunteer at the Salem Volunteer Fire Dept. where he has served for 25 years. Daryl worked as a Correctional Officer at the Coffeewood Correctional Center from 1994 to 2003, where from 1996 to 2001 he served as a K9 handler and was preceded in death by his K9 companion Max. He later served for almost nine years as a Police Corporal for the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority at Dulles International Airport. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing video games. "Fitz" currently held the Madden '11 Champion title. He enjoyed WWE wrestling, NASCAR racing and collecting KISS memorabilia. His favorite football team was none other than the Dallas Cowboys. But most importantly he loved spending time with his children. Survivors include "Squishy's" longtime friend and significant other, Tracy White; former spouse, Christina Hale; three children, Daryl Nelson "D.J." Fitzgerald, Jr., Logan Nathaniel Fitzgerald and Brittany Nevaeh Fitzgerald; a step-daughter, Cayla Nicole Geddes; a sister, Raina Fitzgerald Weakley. Uncle "Doodle" is also survived by two nieces, Alyssa Lyn Payne and Megan Nichole Payne; a nephew, Justin Michael Dodson; as well as numerous other friends and family members. The family will receive friends from 6 - 9 PM on Wednesday, Nov. 16th at the Found & Sons Funeral Home, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701, where funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, Nov. 17th with Chaplain Charlie Grant officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be comprised of members of the Salem Volunteer Fire Dept. and Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Salem Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1254, Culpeper, VA 22701. An online guestbook and tribute wall are available at www.foundandsons.com Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.
